Move over YouTube, Facebook will launch TV-like shows in June

In a push to compete with premium TV programming, Facebook will debut about 24 shows in June, ranging from 5 minute long program featuring famous Hollywood stars to Virtual Reality dating show to sports related entertainment. According to rumors disclosed to Business Insider, Facebook is mainly targeting its programs on teens. These shows will be added to Facebook’s app Video Tab everyday and will also be featured in other platforms like Apple TV. This move is an attempt to fight against tech giants like Amazon and Youtube who has entered into entertainment business. This week, we have seen YouTube launch its own free, ad-supported TV shows that will feature big names like Katy Perry, Ellen Degeneres and Kevin Hart.   Initially, Facebook planned  to launch TV programs in April during developer conference, but was postponed in June in time for the Cannes Lions festival.
